Marketing Systems FAQ → Funnel Mistakes
What are common funnel mistakes?
Common funnel mistakes I see in my work happen when businesses focus on getting attention but fail to guide people toward a clear next step.
Maybe the biggest mistake I see is treating every visitor to your website as if they’re at the same stage of awareness. Eugene Schwartz’s framework shows that an unaware prospect needs a very different message than someone who is already comparing products/services.
AI search has changed how buyers move through the funnel. In the past, a prospect might land on your website while they were still trying to understand the problem. Now, many people use AI tools to research the problem, compare possible solutions, and learn what to look for before they ever visit your site. By the time they arrive, they may already be solution aware and comparing products, features, pricing, or proof.
That means bad copy, weak case studies, hidden pricing, and generic landing pages can cost you revenue.
Slow follow-up creates another leak. If a prospect requests information and hears nothing for hours or days, they may already be speaking with your competitor.
The best funnels match the message to the buyer’s level of awareness, answer the questions holding them back, and make the next step easy.
